About Us

About Us

The Caneyville church of Christ is a group of Christians dedicated to worshipping God and serving Him daily (II Cor. 5:14-15). We believe that the Lord Jesus came to this earth, and promised to build a church, His church (Matt. 16:18), and it is this church that is composed of all the saved people worldwide (Acts 2:47). Jesus came bringing a message of grace, love, and salvation (Jn. 1:17; Matt. 4:171), and this message needs to be spread to all the world (Mk. 16:15-16; II Tim. 2:2).

We have nothing to say except what the book of God says (I Pet. 4:11). We do not wish to practice anything that cannot be found within the pages of Inspiration (Col. 3:17). We hope that this is your goal and expectation as well.

Our worship consists of elements found within the pages of the New Testament. When we meet to worship upon the first day of the week (Acts 2:41, 20:7; I Cor. 16:1-2), we meet for the purpose of worshipping God in spirit and in truth (Jn. 4:24). This worship specifically consists of singing praises to God (Eph. 5:19; Col. 3:16), prayers (Acts 2:42; I Thess. 5:17), partaking of the Lord's Supper (Acts 2:42, 20:7), giving of our means (Acts 2:42; I Cor. 16:1-2), and preaching the gospel (Acts 2:42, 20:7; II Tim. 4:2).

The work of the church is simple. We follow the Bible examples of evangelism (I Thess. 1:8; I Tim. 3:15; II Tim. 4:2; etc.), edification (I Thess. 5:11; Eph. 4:11-12; etc.), and benevolence toward needy saints (Acts 11:28-30; Rom. 15:25-26; etc.). The Caneyville church of Christ is autonomous (self-governing) and is able to do the work the Lord expects us to do. (Col. 3:17,  1:18)

The organization of the church is also simple. When we study the pages of Scripture, we see that each congregation is to be organized with elders, deacons, and saints (Phil. 1:1). Those serving as elders and deacons must meet the Biblical qualifications described in I Timothy 3:1-13 and Titus 1:5-9. Further, I Peter 5:1-4, Hebrews 13:7 and 17 and Acts 20:28 help us in this study as well. A saint is simply a Christian, one who has submitted to the Lord's plan of salvation (Mk. 16:16; Acts 2:38; etc.). This is a simple organization, but it is very effective because this is God's plan!
